 Brennen Jennings

I really appreciate this opportunity to run for the TXRA Board. Racquetball has opened so many doors for me in the eleven years I have been playing, and it is time that I give back to the community. I found racquetball when I had just turned 18 years old at UTSA in the semester of Fall 2012. My closest friend Brant introduced the sport to me and at first I was skeptical of playing it. It is comical to look back at that time and how my initial thoughts of our game were so far off. Over the next four years I would play at both UTSA and UT Austin with their racquetball clubs. I fell in love with the game, as I would be challenged in ways I had not ever thought about. As we all know, racquetball pushes you both physically and mentally, demanding an intense amount of focus and adaptability. Having not competed in high level sports prior to college, due to playing in band, I found myself constantly being pushed out of my comfort zone. I had to rely on my training and strategy in order to achieve victories in competition. This has held true ever since. When I finished college I returned to San Antonio, where I would meet many members of the Alamo City Racquetball Association that would continue to push my game to higher levels. I received coaching from George Bustos and Thomas Evans, who both drew out the best in me, offering different perspectives that I had not thought about before. Our racquetball community in San Antonio is a very tight knit group, and has produced many of the top tournament players in the country. Playing with everyone in San Antonio has brought my game up to the Open level, which felt like an unachievable dream when I first started at UTSA. I feel honored to put my name alongside theirs, who are too many to list. I have done a small amount of coaching here in SA, and am trying to push our top juniors at the club. Playing against Shane Diaz, Naomi Ros, and DJ Mendoza has kept my motivation high. I want them, and all of our juniors to grow and succeed. This will be the main focus of my position with the TXRA if I am to be elected.

Rhonda King

I have been honored to serve as Secretary for the TXRA this past year and ask for your vote to continue as a member of the Board for the TXRA. As a member of the TXRA Board i have been honored to serve as support staff for several state competitions and various other projects. I completely support the efforts of promoting and financially supporting our Junior athletes in their quests to make the US national team and becoming all around quality people. I respectfully request your vote to continue this work.

Ed Mooney

Bio for Ed Mooney My name is Ed Mooney. I was born in New York, graduated high school in 1963, came out west to attend junior college in Nebraska on a football scholarship., Graduated junior college in 1965 and transferred to Texas Tech on a track and football scholarship. Graduated Texas Tech in 1968 and was drafted by the Detroit Lions. I spent 7 years in the NFL, retiring in1974. Worked at Texas Tech and Baylor for several years before retiring in 1996. At this point I started playing racquetball full time and continue to play to this day. My interest in serving on the TXRA board is basically one single reason, the growing of the sport. My involvement in Lubbock has shown that growth can take place if the correct approach is used, convincing club owners, university facilities and individuals that are playing racquetball to join with me to see the sport grow. Our approach in West Texas is proof that racquetball can grow again if the right people are working with you. A position on the board will serve as encouragement to others to follow my lead, working together with other members to see racquetball grow.

Sandy Rios

For the past 3 years I have been fortunate to have been an elected member of the TRXA Board of Directors. I believe that we need to continue our efforts thru the formation and support of juniors programs as well as building relationships with the colleges that have courts in order to sponsor and grow collegiate teams. I would also encourage anyone who has access to courts that will allow Jr programs to become a certified instructor thru the USAR. This will give you a leg up on trying to start the high school/collegiate team. I believe that another way to grow our base is to encourage and include those club players who may not have ever been included in a sanctioned tournament. I was fortunate to work with Lauren Peck on the creation of the Gregg Peck foundation to further help Texas Junior players pursue their racquetball dreams. The position of TXRA Board member is one that takes time and work to be effective, and I am fortunate enough to have flexible enough work hours to commit my time and effort to do what needs to be done. I respectfully would ask that you consider and vote for me to work for you to keep our beloved sport alive and growing.
